The type of clothing needed to stay warm depends on the time of the year, location, and what sort of activity you are doing. If you’re heading outdoors, the last thing you want is for your wardrobe to be subpar. For todays post we talk about what you should know when preparing for the outdoors.
The outdoors
Dressing in layers is the key secret to keeping warm in the winter, but why stop there. Here are 5 pro tips to keep you safe!
- Move
Clothing does not produce heat, it only helps trap the heat that your body produces. If you get cold, start moving or increase your pace.
- Pace Yourself
Its always best to set a pace that keeps you warm without causing you to overheat. If sweating, drier base layers will help prevent a sudden chill when your activity level declines.
- Adjust Layers
Sometimes it’s impossible to avoid sweating, so adjust your clothing layers. Wear windproof or a jacket with breathable insulation, to prevent excessive sweating.
- Eat More
Our body will need more fuel in freezing temperatures when you’re out for more than about two hours. Eat high-fat snacks like chocolate, cheese, and nuts, so you can achieve a slow-burning fuel that keeps your body going for the long haul.
- Drink Up
With cold, dry conditions typical of winter, it becomes easy to be dehydrated more quickly than you realize. Even if you’re not sweating much, drink frequently. If possible, carry a thermos with a hot drink!
